The map I chose was the Colonial Settlements map. It basically shows where the thirteen colonies were divided into New England, Middle, and Southern colonies.

Underground Railroad 1860

Shows the routes of the Slave Trade, and how the slaves escaped from their "masters" and got to freedom. The majority of routes were in the North than the South.

I chose the "Major Civil Rights Events". On the map, it showed events such as the March on Washington, Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, the bombing of the church in Birmingham (killing 4 little girls),and the first lunch sit-in in Greensboro, North Carolina. I find these events important because if they didn't happen, us blacks would not have the oppurtunities we have today, like becoming the United States president (Barack Obama).

I am choosing to comment on the Public school segregation laws of 1954. it shows which states had a requirement of prohibition of integration in public schools. from this map i see that 50 years ago I would not be in this room because North Carolina was required to be segregated. It makes me thankful for what I have now.

I chose the Underground Railraod 1860. It illustrates the routes that slaves used to escape from slavery in the south. Many slaves used these routes to run to the north to become free.
